73T: Public Transit for North Waltham
For too long, the City of Waltham, the MBTA, and the incumbent State Rep have failed to prioritize public transit along Trapelo Rd for residents in North Waltham. Sean believes that all Waltham residents should have direct access to public transit options that run at least once per hour during the day and more frequently during rush hour.
Residents in North Waltham should not have to walk 30 minutes or more to catch the 61 bus to Moody St, adding an hour or more of commuting time in each direction for someone who works in Boston or Cambridge. (Or forcing Boston & Cambridge drivers onto Waltham streets to reach the Route 128 office complexes!)
Sean proposes the 73T bus route extension to connect residents along the full length of Trapelo Road to the same direct access to the Commuter Rail and broader MBTA bus network that the rest of the city already enjoys. At a minimum, there should be a shuttle or pilot service for at least a year to understand the potential ridership and congestion relief in Waltham.
Of equal importance, the 73T route would open up public transit access for children and families living west of Lexington St to visit all of the parks, hiking trails, and sports fields on the eastern half of Trapelo Rd.
Some options for major stops or end points along the route include the Carroll School parking lot and the Data Drive commercial building parking lot on the eastern end of Trapelo Rd as well as the Duffy Properties parking lot (where Mighty Squirrel, City Streets, and the Waverley Oaks Athletic Club are located) and finally the Waverley Square Commuter Rail and Bus Station.
